英雄無敵 3 目前比較流行的連線對戰方式
是安裝 Horn of the Abyss ( HOTA , 深淵號角 ) 這個 mod
然後經由遊戲中的 Lobby (大廳) 來連線對戰

要安裝 Horn of the Abyss 前
要先安裝 Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death 原版
或 Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete 原版
( 提醒一下
因為 HOTA 和有些 mod
會要求英雄無敵 3 遊戲不要安裝到"Program Files" 資料夾下
所以安裝 Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death
或 Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete 時
記得不要把遊戲安裝到 "Program Files" 資料夾或其下的資料夾 )

另外
目前 Horn of the Abyss 只和 HoMM3 HD 相容
除了 HoMM3 HD 這個 mod
不能安裝其他任何的 mod

通常英雄無敵 3 玩家會安裝 HoMM3 HD 這個 mod
一方面是為了對應現今高解析度的螢幕
一方面是讓英雄無敵 3 能夠在 windows 10 下執行

由於 Windows 7 已經停止更新
上網連線對戰
作業系統勢必將由 Windows 10 取代 Windows 7
而 Windows 10 本身也不斷的在改版
HoMM3 HD 這個 mod 看來有跟上 Windows 10 改版的腳步
讓英雄無敵 3 能在 Windows 10 下執行

目前最新版的 HOTA 1.6.1 安裝檔
會同時安裝舊版的 HoMM3 HD (版本 5.0 RC76)
而最新版的 HoMM3 HD 版本為 5.0 RC94

下載好相關的檔案之後
安裝遊戲的步驟:

1.
因為 HOTA 預設安裝在 C:\Games\Heroes of Might and Magic III 這個資料夾
所以先在電腦上
創建 C:\Games\Heroes of Might and Magic III 這個資料夾

2.
把 Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete 原版
( 或 Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death 原版 )
安裝在 C:\Games\Heroes of Might and Magic III 這個資料夾

3.
把 Horn of the Abyss (HOTA)
安裝在 C:\Games\Heroes of Might and Magic III 這個資料夾

安裝時
記得勾選 Create a shortcut on the desktop 這個選項

4.
把 HoMM3 HD
安裝在 C:\Games\Heroes of Might and Magic III 這個資料夾

安裝時
記得要有 Create a Start Menu folder 這個選項
和勾選 Create a desktop shortcut 這個選項

5.
以 HoMM3 HD 開啟遊戲

( PS.
1.
如果在安裝最新版的 HoMM3 HD 時出錯
那麼或許可以考慮不要安裝最新版的 HoMM3 HD
就使用 HOTA 自帶的舊版 HoMM3 HD

這些 mod
畢竟是愛好者的作品
不保證能在所有電腦上執行
