We may all think it is a lost cause, but during an interview with MTV, Reggie
Fils-Aime confirmed Nintendo would love to bring GoldenEye 007 to the Wii
Virtual Console. The original game on the Nintendo 64 helped sell many
consoles and is still highly regarded as a first-person shooter.

There are two main blockers to the game ever seeing a release as a retro
title on the Wii. The biggest problem is that the game was developed by Rare,
which is now owned by Microsoft. The second problem is that the license
holder for Bond games has changed hands, so Nintendo would also need to get
the approval of Activision.

Reggie made it clear that the issues mentioned above exist, but "suffice it
to say we would love to see it, so we're exploring all the rights issues."

This would be an excellent addition to the Virtual Console library, and I'm
sure it would be one of the top sellers. I doubt very much Microsoft will
release the rights, and Activision paid much for the Bond rights and
therefore probably won't want an old game getting a new lease on life.
Nintendo fans can only hope.
