Netkas starts playing with JB PS3s - 改機

Netkas, the legendary hackintosh hacker/programmer (essentially the
DarkAlex of the OSX world), has just posted a short but interesting
PS3 related post on his blog.
Netkas這個可以稱得上是OS X上的DarkAlex的人物最近在他的部落格上貼了有趣
的東西。

透過lv2 讀取，發現 PS3的硬碟很可能是使用 UFS(Unix File System)檔案格式
，這個格式在 BSD上面相當常見（不意外$QNY也要用這種免錢的格式，用NTFS不
就要付錢給M$了），當然 PS3也認得iso9660 格式（傳統光碟機跟DVD 的CDFS格
式）、 UDF（ DVD影片光碟的格式）、 FAT格式（不然玩家會靠北說要怎麼把遊
戲存檔存在 USB隨身碟裡面）、還有 NETFS（這啥？）

然而，似乎只有 USB隨身碟可以使用 FAT格式，另外 /dev/flashX/ 路徑裡面的
東西也是 FAT格式（換言之存在Flash ROM 上的東西搞不好是 FAT格式）

UFS file system support obviously comes with BSD, but can be added to
Windows (FFS, or Crossmeta), Linux (compiled into the kernel), OSX,
Solaris and so forth.
雖然 UFS是 BSD使用的格式，但要讓 Windows能夠存取也不是沒辦法，Linux 也
只要重編核心就能搞定，至於OS X跟Solaris 則是小菜一碟。

It opens up quite a few possibilities. The most obvious is the ability
to read/write to a PS3 formatted harddrive once its removed from your
console. A far more interesting possibility would be finding a way to
allow the PS3 to use UFS on USB devices. The FAT 4GB file size barrier
would then become a non-issue.
這篇文章給了我們不少可能性，比方說我們可以把 PS3的硬碟拆出來，然後利用
自己的PC讀出內容。未來的可能性則在於我們是否能讓 USB隨身碟也使用 USF格
式，降就不會遇到 FAT 4GB檔案大小上限的問題。

The PlayStation 3 game console uses UFS2 on HDD. The PlayStation 2 HDD
used UFS as well.
另外值得注意的是 PS3主機使用UFS2格式，而PS2 主機的硬碟也是使用 USF格式
。

It is great that someone else is studying the PS3 though.
換言之，要研究 PS3的硬碟，從 PS2著手也許會是個好的開始。
