Developer Hermes has figured out a way in which you're no longer required to
have a disc present in the drive when playing backups. It comes in the form
of a modified PSGroove payload. The only problem is — we need a modified
version of Backup Manager that honours this newly crafted payload. It's a
sure bet we'll see that or a patch real soon.
Hermes has tested said modifications by mounting the game directly (in the
payload) and it does in fact work without any disc present. What else? You
can launch unencrypted EBOOT.BIN files straight from /dev_usb000 using the
/app_home/PS3_GAME menu option. To do that structure the directories & files
on your USB mass storage device like so:
/PS3_GAME
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/EBOOT.BIN
/PS3_GAME/ICON0.PNG
/PS3_GAME/PARAM.SFO
This compiled hex is for AT90USB1287 boards. We'll hopefully have more for
you soon.
