April 23, 2007 - Each year Time magazine picks the 100 most influential
people in the world and the nominees for 2006 have been announced. Nintendo's
Shigeru Miyamoto makes the list of 202 people for his part in creating the
Wii. This is Miyamoto's first nomination for the award and he is the only
game designer represented (Bill Gates is also nominated for his philanthropy
work).

From the 202 nominations, Time is asking its readers to vote on the final
100. As of this writing Miyamoto is in third place behind Stephen Colbert and
Bhumibol Adulyadej, the king of Thailand (?!). Time offers a brief synopsis
of each candidate's pros and cons to help voters decide. Miyamoto's pros are
the many endearing characters he's created and the phenomenal success of the
Wii. His cons are his perfectionism, which often results in game delays, and
the Wii's graphical limitations.
Miyamoto was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Game
Developer's Choice Awards last month.
