六、Horatio 何瑞修
（譯註：這個譯名超棒der我死都不要改）

The Horatio are one of the playable factions in Endless Space. A race of
clones, their leader seeks to "beautify" the universe by populating it with
his likeness.

何瑞修是Endless Space中其中一支可選派系。這個種族全是複製體，他們的領導者希望
藉由讓全宇宙的生靈都有和他相似的容貌，來「美化」這個宇宙。

The Horatio were founded by an eccentric United Empire trillionare of the
same name. Incredibly long-lived, unbelievably rich, tired of ordinary life.
Taking a single colony ship, Horatio set up base on a far flung planet that
contained ancient cloning labs left by the Endless.

何瑞修由一個聯合帝國的同名古怪兆萬富翁建立。這位富翁並沒滿足於他極長的壽命、以

Still bored and now also lonely, he turned to these facilities. Using his DNA
for a template, Horatio created a race of obedient replicas of the most
beautiful being in the entire universe - himself.

Before long, "Horatio the First" as he was now known, had repopulated the

Society 社會

The Horatio society reflects the nature of its founder and absolute ruler.
Just as the faction's goal is to beautify the universe, every part of the
society - the buildings, the ships, the people - also must be beautiful.

In a race of near identical copies, conformity is a great virtue,
individuality a great vice. "Defective" copies that are too unique are
destroyed. Indeed, all Horatio, both male and female, look alike, save facial
tattoos.

Convinced of their own superiority, the Horatio see the other factions as
primitive, unsophisticated, and - above all - ugly. The notion of other
species not like them is disturbing to most Horatios That said, other Horatio
embrace these other species. The faction understands that sometimes working
with other races is necessary or even desirable.

Notes 注意事項

Despite their biological origin, the Horatio do not seem to identify
themselves as human.

Horatio excel at populating and influence. Combining these two allows a
Horatio player to rapidly develop a newly conquered system, then use its
significant influence as an area-denial tool. While this will work against
AI, care should be taken when facing human opponents or aggressive AI, as
they are likely to simply declare war and eliminate the irritation. In
combat, Horatio are strong, though not to the same level as Hissho or Cravers
are. Something to bear in mind is that Horatio have the slowest ship
production of all stock races, meaning a protracted war can be crippling to
ones economy.

The second strength of Horatio is their theme: Cloning. Whereas other groups
need to rely on luck of the draw for early administrators or late-game
Commanders, Horatio can simply clone existing options as required. This has
two benefits: One, it allows for precise heroes to be crafted, and two, the
cloned hero will retain all traits and experience of the copied hero,
allowing for rapidly deployed, powerful heroes. As the game shifts from early
game to late, a Horatio player should begin to expel administrators and
corporate heroes, in order to field high-level Commanders and Pilots on their
fleets. This will be necessary to compete with any militarized opponents the
player will encounter.

七、Pilgrims 朝聖者

The Pilgrims are one of the playable factions in Endless Space.
Part-scientists, part-mystics, part-rebels, they have an almost religious
fascination with the Endless, dedicated to finding the Endless homeworld of
Tor.

朝聖者是Endless Space中其中一支可選派系。由科學家、神祕主義者和反抗者組成的這

Origins 起源

The Pilgrims, then called the Resistance, began as a group of unhappy United
Empire scientists, intellectuals, and other dissidents. They objected to the
corporate greed and authoritarian rule inherent to the Empire. At some early
phase of the United Empire's interstellar expansion, (the exact time is
unclear) the Resistance hijacked a colonization ship and fled the Terran
Solar System to form their own, less oppressive society.

朝聖者，或被稱作反抗軍，起源於一群不滿聯合帝國的科學家、知識分子和其他異議份子

The new society spent its early days hiding in remote asteroid fields,
fleeing the United Empire retaliatory forces. Constantly on the run, they
grew accustomed to a semi-nomadic life. However, this soon had a telling
effect on the first children born into the Resistance.

While in the Kuiper-belt equivalent of an alien star system, they stumbled
across a vast cache of Endless artifacts. Moreover, they encountered a Sophon
surveillance team that was also exploring the artifacts. The two races became
allies, with the Pilgrims receiving vital aid from the Sophons.

This twofold development transformed the Resistance. While their new friends
taught them the arts of shipbuilding and interstellar travel, they were
awe-struck by the vast ruins of this ancient civilization, developing a
mystical fascination and reverence for the Endless. The antipathy for the
United Empire remained strong, but it became secondary to the desire to learn
more about the Endless.

At some point, the United Empire and the Pilgrims fought the First and Second
Wars of Separation, but the time, duration, and details of the conflicts
remain unclear.

The Pilgrims still maintain a semi-nomadic lifestyle, and combine science and
religion in a seamless blend. They are simultaneously educated scientists and
tattooed mystics. In addition to the occasional system evacuation ahead of a
United Empire fleet, they also uproot themselves to aid their search for the
planet Tor.

In contrast with the authoritarian United Empire, the Pilgrims make a point
of relying on consensus systems and voting.

Thanks to the potentially life-saving aid from the Sophons, the Pilgrims
maintain a close bond with this fellow race of intellectuals. As for other
races, they are always willing to gain their assistance in the quest for the
planet Tor.

Notes 注意事項

Pilgrims can explore further, faster than anyone, thanks to early access to
Warp Drive tech. That same technology also allows them to colonize Asteroids
for huge FIDS at the cost of approval. Never-the-less, a Pilgrim player
should travel as far as quickly as they can, stealing exploration bonuses and
systems before other Empires can grab them. Mid-game will bring in some
unique System Developments which can keep Pilgrims researching, fighting and
exploring just fine. While the Pilgrims are not especially weak in combat,
they aren't strong enough to compete with groups like Hissho, Cravers or even
United Empire and Horatio, so aggression should be used sparingly. Despite
relatively unimpressive fleets, Pilgrims can take over systems and develop
them into colonies far quicker than their competitors, a fact which should be
exploited to full extent to remain competitive late-game.

得益於早期就能獲得空間跳躍科技，朝聖者探索的比任何人都要遠要快。同樣的科技也讓
他們能以認同度為代價去殖民擁有豐富FIDS的小行星帶。不過，一個朝聖者玩家應該盡可

The Pilgrims affinity allows them to evacuate an entire system. After 3
turns, the system will be emptied of all its structures and population except
for planetary exploitations and one pop per planet. A special colony ship
will be created carrying them. Upon settlement, the new planet will have all
the removed structures and population; if there are more population than
capacity, additional planets will be automatically colonized for free within
the same system. If there is still insufficient room, the excess population
is lost. The Crowded Planets perk seems to be ignored at this step, meaning
you can both settle additional planets or lose population by going beyond the
uncrowded limits. Unlike producing a normal colony ship, the evacuation does
not prevent planetary growth while it is under construction.

朝聖者本性讓他們能從整個星系撤退。三回合後，整個星系除了行星開發設施和每個星球

八、Sheredyn 薩拉丁軍團

The Sheredyn are one of the playable factions in Endless Space. Originally
the bodyguards for the emperors of the United Empire, the Sheredyn Fleet, as
it is known, has since grown into a powerful subfaction within the empire.

薩拉丁軍團是Endless Space中其中一支可選派系。薩拉丁艦隊原本是聯合帝國皇帝的禁
衛軍，而他們在帝國中已經成為了一隻強而有力的集團了。

Origins 起源

The Sheredyn were the first and are arguably the most famous military order
within the United Empire, tied to it in the same way the Praetorians were
tied to the emperors of Rome. Founded at the request of Nykolay III "Steel
Eyes" Hyvel a few decades after the creation of the Empire, the Sheredyn were
originally an elite group of guards charged with the personal security of the
emperor and his family. With their members recruited from all services of the
Imperial military, the Sheredyn evolved from personal security work into air
and sea operations as well. Barons, dukes, and corporations made numerous
attempts to create copycat elite units with varying degrees of success. These
units have, over the history of the empire, come into direct conflict with
the Sheredyn. But the record remains at 43-0-1 for the Sheredyn, whose
ability to survive and succeed has given them an almost mystical aura of
power.

薩拉丁軍團是聯合帝國內第一支也是最有名的一支軍事組織，就像羅馬御衛隊之於羅馬皇

As the only reliably loyal element in an increasingly widespread empire, the
Sheredyn's political power grew over time. Economic power followed political
power; the Sheredyn had to develop supply, logistics, maintenance, and
manufacturing facilities in order to maintain their installations,
technology, and troops. When the Empire developed space flight, the Sheredyn
necessarily followed along. The emperor began to travel on Sheredyn ships
with Sheredyn crews, as the family and corporate elements that controlled
fleets of the UE Navy often had conflicting loyalties.

Zelevas' Ascension 杰勒瓦斯的登基

A radical change in the power structure occurred with the accession of
Maximilian Zelevas to the throne, as Zelevas's bloodless coup was executed
with the unspoken approval of the Sheredyn. This was in complete opposition
to the traditional stance of the organization; it had always pledged loyalty
to the emperor regardless of questions of "right" or "wrong". Arguments can
be made in favor of the Sheredyn's actions, however. Zelevas was the CEO of a
wide-ranging conglomerate, XenoMine Corp., and widely acknowledged as a
genius as well as an inspirational leader. It helped, of course, that the
reigning Emperor Willema Szinda had gone from honest and energetic to senile
and unbalanced. Still, this shift in Sheredyn loyalties was unthinkable to
many.

With their increased freedom, the Sheredyn began taking over corporations,
developing independent colonies, and creating their own interstellar
logistics networks, transforming from an elite bodyguard force into a
powerful subfaction with the empire and taking on such duties as performing
policing actions, anti-piracy missions, assassinations, and covert operations
against other factions in addition to protecting the emperor. Whether this is
to further the aims of the United Empire, or to provide a future
counter-weight if another emperor proves to be as unstable as Szinda, only
time will tell.

Notes 注意事項

Gameplay-wise, the Sheredyn were initially no different from the United
Empire. Following the release of the expansion pack Endless Space:
Disharmony, the 1.0.87 update was released and added a unique faction
affinity for the Sheredyn.

在遊戲中，薩拉丁軍團原本和聯合帝國沒兩樣。隨著《EndlessSpace: Disharmony》的釋

The Sheredyn faction was exclusive to the Emperor Edition of Endless Space,
but on June 26, 2013, all Admiral Edition owners gained access to the
Sheredyn at no additional cost and the Admiral Edition itself was phased out
to reduce community fragmentation.

薩拉丁軍團派系原本是Endless Space的Emperor Edition中唯一的內容，但在2013年六月

It is not entirely clear whether the Sheredyn have formally split off from
the United Empire or are still a powerful subfaction. The majority of sources
(The artbook, Slowhands posting, brief in-game description) indicate the
latter, but the introduction video added in the 1.0.87 update indicates the
